Hands-on Dutch Oven Cooking Class with Russ and Sue Richins
THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO FAMILY EMERGENCY!
This is a brand-new class for us. Join Russ and Susan Richins, from Rocking Rr Chuckwagon as they teach how to make a meal using Dutch Oven cookware.Classes start with the basics: types of Dutch Ovens; recommended accessories; care and use of Dutch Ovens; cooking techniques; and heat/temperature management. You will prepare a loaf of bread (or rolls) from scratch (Yes, that includes kneading the dough and letting it rise). You and a partner will also prepare either a main dish, a side dish, or a dessert. You do ALL the cooking with guidance from the instructors. No prior Dutch Oven cooking experience is necessary. At the end of the class the students will get to sample what everyone cooked. Any leftovers will be yours to take home.
You will leave the class with the confidence to USE that Dutch Oven! Class is approximately 6 ½ hours, which includes clean-up time. This is a great time to practice what you have learned about cleaning and storing Dutch Ovens.
Russ and Susan Richins have been conducting Dutch oven classes and demos for 15 years and Russ has over 50 years experience cooking in Dutch ovens. They competed for many years in the Three-Pot Dutch oven cookoffs winning many awards and in 2008 won the Arizona State Championship. They own the Rocking RR Chuckwagon with which they compete and have won many Chuckwagon cooking competitions. They have published a popular Dutch oven Cookbook, which is available for sale in the Museum Gift Store. Russ and Susan are personal chefs for small private events specializing in Dutch oven meals. They enjoy teaching others to cook in Dutch Ovens and love it when folks come back to take a class a second and third time, just because they had fun. The biggest compliment is when a previous student comes up and tells them about a successful cooking experience they had after taking the class.
Class fee is $50.00 per person. All food and materials will be provided as part of your fee. Registration is required.
Applications are available online (at left, or via text link below), and are also available in the Museum Store.
