The Superstition Mountain Museum will once again be joining more than 35,000 other museums around the world in 145 countries in celebrating International Museum Day on Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
In recognition of the day, all visitors to the museum, located at 4087 N. Apache Trail, will enjoy free admission to the Museum Gallery. Museum hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. every day.
The theme of 2016 International Museum Day will be Museums and Cultural Landscapes. The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society, and it has been steadily gaining momentum ever since. In 2015, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with more than 35,000 museums hosting events in some 145 countries.
