Superstition Mountain Museum is conducting a search for a new Executive Director
The Superstition Mountain Museum is a growing regional historical museum located at the base of the Superstition Mountains in central Arizona just east of Phoenix on the famed Apache Trail (SR88).
Responsibilities of the position:
The Executive Director is the chief executive oﬃcer responsible for all phases of the day-to-day, hands-on management and operation of the museum. This position reports to the Executive Committee of the SMHS Board of Directors and works with that Board to refine and achieve the goals of the Society and formulate strategic plans.
Requirements of the position:
The ideal candidate shall be an experienced museum professional with proven leadership in all phases of museum administration including:
o Preparation and management of annual budgets and spending plans, including a statement of revenues;
o Business development and marketing;
o Best practices in exhibits, acquisitions, and collections;
o Preparation and implementation of strategic plans in conjunction with the Museum’s Board;
o Development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures complying with State and Federal regulations;
o Understanding of accounting principles and concepts;
o Effective oral and written communication.
The candidate must project an approachable and professional demeanor, have excellent interpersonal skills, and have demonstrated the ability to work with and manage a large group of members, volunteers, and guests.
A degree in Museum Science, Non-Profit Management, Public Administration, or a related discipline is not mandatory, but is preferred. A combination of training, skills, knowledge, abilities, and education will be the basis for selection.
This is a full time position. Salary Range is $35K To $45K dependent on qualifications.
Regular work hours are 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work is required during events and planned “after hours” meetings.
